13th Legal Counsel Congress, Mumbai - IDEX Legal and Thomson Reuters GC Report 2016
Welcome to our annual General Counsel Benchmarking Survey 2016 conducted in collaboration with Thomson Reuters.
Back in 2015 we published the first edition of our General Counsel Survey, a study that addressed some of the key challenges GC’s face in today’s highly competitive world and imparts possible solutions to overcome those challenges. The survey consists of inputs from GC’s and other senior counsels with responsibilities primarilty across India, Asia, Middle East, Europe, and North Africa and beyond. The 2015 study found that GC’s were more open to expanding their legal team; leading at a 56% gravitating towards an increase in their legal department size over the last two years. Additionally the most time consuming activity for legal departments was ethics and compliance issues.
The material gathered from our 2016 survey indicates that an increasing number of GC’s are becoming involved in matters that are not just purely legal anymore but extending their reach into more strategic and business strategy related matters. Our 2016 survey further scrutinises the ever evolving role of GC’s and further highlights the new challenges faced by the leaders of legal departments across the region.
